My name is Joshua and I am 12 years old. I am very interested in the outdoors. I have some experience photographing and video-taping birds, fish, land animals, and other wildlife. I live near a lake, and my yard includes four acres of woods with a stream that runs through it. I am also interested in wilderness survival techniques.

So, I thought I would start a blog about these and related subjects.

For today, let me offer the "survival technique of the week" --

If you ever get stranded, say, your car breaks down, or you are on a long hike and get lost, you can use a cd or dvd disk as a sunlight signaling device. The surface of a cd or dvd is highly reflective, and you can use the hole in the disk to aim your signal. I read this in "The Pocket Outdoor Survival Guide", by J. Wayne Fears, pages 50-51.
